If you were fortunate enough to have read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. There's a scene known as The Standby Protest. Arthur Dent's home is about to get demolished to make way for a new bypass. Arthur lies down in the mud directly in front of the bulldozer. This completely halts the demolition because the driver, Mr. Prosser, refuses to run him over.

While Arthur is lying in the mud, his friend Ford Prefect arrives. Ford urgently needs to take Arthur to the local pub because he knows the entire planet Earth is about to be destroyed by an alien Vogon constructor fleet.

Ford argues that since the demolition is legally scheduled to happen anyway, and Arthur is just waiting there to stop it, Mr. Prosser can simply lie in the mud himself. This ensures no progress is made, Arthur can go grab a drink, and Mr. Prosser doesn't have to worry about Arthur blocking the path while he is gone.
